Hypatia

Gérard de Nerval dans "les Filles du Feu" associe la mort de la néoplatonicienne Hypatia, à l'incendie de la bibliothèque d'Alexandrie, haut-lieu de la transmission culturelle et dont les causes de la destruction demeurent sujettes à diverses hypothèses.
Hypatia, martyre de l'intolérance, femme de science, donne son nom à un projet réalisé avec les écoles et les jeunes de Roissy en France, où le livre, objet analogue, se doit d'être conservé dans sa matérialité et respecté pour en tant que nourriture de l'esprit. Les livres amenés par les participants ont pris place sur des étagères de métal et de cire; titres et références des ouvrages ont été inscrits sur une table de verre et de limaille, comme un ciel étoilé, en hommage à La mathématicienne et astrologue que fut Hypatia.

In ‘Les Filles du Feu’, Gérard de Nerval associates the death of the Neoplatonist Hypatia with the burning of the Library of Alexandria, a major centre of cultural transmission, the causes of whose destruction remain open to various hypotheses.
Hypatia, martyr of intolerance and woman of science, gives her name to a project carried out with schools and young people in Roissy in France, where the book, an analogous object, must be preserved in its materiality and respected as food for the spirit. The books brought in by the participants were placed on shelves of metal and wax; titles and references were inscribed on a table of glass and filings, like a starry sky, in homage to Hypatia, the mathematician and astrologer.

Gérard de Nerval verbindet in „Les Filles du Feu“ den Tod der Neuplatonikerin Hypatia mit dem Brand der Bibliothek von Alexandria, einer Hochburg der kulturellen Überlieferung, über deren Zerstörungsursachen noch immer verschiedene Hypothesen existieren.

Hypatia, Märtyrerin der Intoleranz und Frau der Wissenschaft, ist Namensgeberin eines Projekts mit Schulen und Jugendlichen in Roissy, Frankreich, bei dem das Buch als analoges Objekt in seiner Materialität bewahrt und als Nahrung für den Geist geachtet werden soll. Die von den Teilnehmern mitgebrachten Bücher wurden auf Metall- und Wachsregalen platziert, und die Titel und Referenzen der Bücher wurden auf einen Tisch aus Glas und Spänen geschrieben, wie ein Sternenhimmel zu Ehren der Mathematikerin und Astrologin Hypatia.
